There are a number of urgent issues affecting our district and our nation:

Health Care

America has the best trained professionals in the world and we spend 16% of our national wealth on medical care. Yet many Americans do not have adequate care and our system makes it difficult for providers to do their best work. more...

Focus on the health of our children and guide them to develop good health habits. Remove unhealthy vending machine food from schools.  Increase the amount of exercise students engage in. back to top

Israel

Flying over border with Lebanon being briefed by Col. Miri Eisen, Spokeswoman for the Prime Minister of Israel

I have visited Israel four times in the past few years on a high level fact finding leadership trip and family missions.  I’ve been to the cities, the farms, the borders, the holy sites, the desert, and the mountains. I’ve held the hands of terror victims and visited sites of murder as well as places of healing.   I’ve also studied the history of the region extensively along with frequently attending forums and policy meetings.

A detailed understanding of the Middle East conflict is essential for every Congressman.  The following is a brief synopsis of my analysis of the situation and commitment to a solution.

Gary and Dr. Mor-Yosef, COO
Hadassah Medical Center

With impressive natural and human resources, the Middle East has the potential to be a vibrant, productive region of the earth.  Instead it has been the source of continuing strife and bloodshed.

In the center of this region of unrealized potential, Israel represents a thriving democracy and a great American ally.  In 58 years, the land of Israel has been transformed from swamps and deserts to highly productive farmland. This small nation also stands on the cutting edge of research and development in biomedical and evolving technologies.  An Israel at peace could resolve many of the world’s greatest crises:  malnutrition, disease, water shortages, etc.

Unfortunately, Israel along with the entire region is not at peace.   Except for Jordan and Egypt, no other Arab country recognizes Israel’s right to exist as mandated by the United Nations in 1948.  This is the crux of the conflict.  Until Israel is recognized by its neighbors as a sovereign nation, there will be no peace.

Examining security fence on the West Bank

America is bound to Israel both morally and politically. As nations founded on Judeo-Christian values and democratic principals, our past and futures are intertwined.  With the growth of Islamic fundamentalism and its threat to world peace, it is vital to America’s security that Israel remain a dominant military power in the region.

Congress must maintain its steadfast support of Israel. This includes foreign aid, military supplies, collaborative intelligence, and diplomatic support.  Investing in Israel is an investment in America’s future.

In addition to our support of Israel, America must remain resolute in promoting democracy and peace throughout the region.   We have witnessed the work of tyrants in Iraq and the vitriol of extremists in Iran.  Yet the vast majority of citizens of the Middle East yearn for the peace and civil liberties consistently denied them.

It is our duty, as Americans, to honor the valiant soldiers who have sacrificed in Iraq by continuing to fight terror.  In congruence, we cannot allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons which they will surely use to undermine democracy throughout the region and promote terrorism. And lastly, it must be known that America will have zero tolerance for nations that support terrorists.

The fight against extremists and fascists will be a defining moment of this century.  America must continue to defend fundamental human rights and liberties.  Our responsibility is clear, our obligation is unquestionable; we need leaders with the courage and determination to persevere – Leaders who understand that peace in the Middle East is essential to preserving our way of life.

Taxes and Business

We must strengthen the economy by providing an environment for business generation and growth via tax constraint and reasonable regulation.

In the past 25 years, due to lower tax rates and moderate business regulation, our nation’s wealth has increased more than in its first 200 years.

Americans are better shoppers for goods and services than the government. By keeping taxes low and putting the purchasing power into the hands of consumers, we will have continued economic growth and families will prosper. back to top
